KEY LARGO (1948)

Hot and cold running gangsters

A sadistic little hood (Edward G. Robinson) and his band of bullying baddies hold Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and others hostage in Lionel Barrymore's rundown Florida Keys hotel, waiting for a load of money to arrive. A hurricane dampens the gang's plans, but it takes plucky Bogie on a boat with a gat to finally sink the bum. Directed by John Huston, KEY LARGO is one of Eddie's and Bogie's best, bar none. (One of the film's creepiest moments is when Robinson slithers over to Bacall and whispers something in her ear. We can't hear what he's saying, but we can easily guess from the look of revulsion on her face and her spitting on him.)
