Burt Lancaster gives a reserved yet powerful performance as a tired, lonely Mexican constable who wants only peace – until he’s forced to kill a man wrongly accused of being a murderer. He asks for monetary help for the man's widow, and when he’s ridiculed and almost killed, he issues a warning of revenge with three little words: “Valdez is coming!" - and come he does, pissed to the gills, armed to the teeth, and taking no prisoners. This is a crackerjack movie, compelling from start to finish.
