DOUBLE INDEMNITY (1944)

Sparks fly at the first meeting between sleazy insurance agent Walter Neff and bored housewife/femme fatale Phyllis Dietrichson. The heat winds up burning 'em both. DOUBLE INDEMNITY is directed by Billy Wilder and stars Fred MacMurray as Neff, Barbara Stanwyck as Dietrichson and Edward G. Robinson as Keyes, Walter's co-worker who unlocks the pair's crime. It's based on a 1927 crime perpetrated by a married Queens woman and her boyfriend. The two real-life murderers were quickly identified and arrested, as are their fictional counterparts in this classic noir dramatization, all told in flashback. (Trivia note: Other films inspired by the '26 Snyder-Gray murder include THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE and BODY HEAT.)
