GRAND HOTEL (1932) / DINNER AT EIGHT (1933)

Two MGM gems

GRAND HOTEL and DINNER AT EIGHT, which share some of the same great MGM cast (John and Lionel Barrymore, Wallace Beery) were made three-quarters of a century ago, and to modern eyes, they may look prehistoric. But if you simply give yourself over to the hammy acting, stagy dialogue and melodramatic subplots, you'll be well rewarded with stories that are poignant, funny and bubbling with truths that resonate today.
