ROPE (1948)

Keeps you dangling

In the suspenseful ROPE, Alfred Hitchcock tells a story on film virtually in real time. And while the trick of eliminating cuts and dissolves by filming in continuous 10-minute takes soon grows tedious, this is nonetheless a highly clever and entertaining film. The action takes place in one day in one apartment of two young men (John Dahl, Farley Granger) who murder a third just to prove they can get away with "the perfect murder." It won't spoil the movie for me to tell that their wily college prof (Jimmy Stewart) fails them.
