JOURNEY TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE SUN (1969)

JOURNEY TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE SUN is indeed a cinematic journey to the far side. Sometime in the future (a rather '60s-looking future, I might add), a two-man expedition blasts off in search of a newly discovered planet that shares the same orbit as Earth but is on the sun's exact opposite side. The spaceship crash-lands several weeks early, and the surviving astronaut (ever-bland Roy Thinnes of TV's "The Invader's" fame) has to figure out whether he's back on Earth or a mirror-image world. I’ve seen this film several times and still don't completely get it, but boy, do I enjoy trying. Extremely cool and original futuristic gizmos and special effects (on what appears to be a fairly low budget). The fiery ending is as perplexing as it is dramatic. Also known as DOPPELGANGER.
