THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE (1962)

When the legend becomes fact, print the legend

Jimmy Stewart was never more heroic, Lee Marvin more malicious, and John Wayne more Duke than in THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE. Stewart plays Ransom Stoddard, a US senator who became famous for killing the notorious outlaw Liberty Valance - or did he? Attending the funeral of a homeless man named Tom Doniphon (Wayne) he and his wife had known years before, the senator tells a reporter (and us, through flashback) the truth about his deed. Wonderfully directed by John Ford.
