THE RED SHOES (1947)

If they fit ... stay barefooted!

THE RED SHOES is absolutely a must-see for every film lover. This legendary Pressburger-Powell film is loosely based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen about a girl obsessed with owning a pair of beautiful red ballet slippers. Once she puts them on, she discovers their magic – and curse. Story and film differ in many ways, but at the core both are the dangers of trying to possess the unpossessable – for ballerina Vicki Page, it's trying to have both career and marriage. Vicki is played by a dazzling redhead, Moira Shearer, a well-known ballerina starring in her first film. The autocratic impresario, Boris Lermontov, is portrayed magnificently by Anton Walbrook.Every scene is a work of art.)
