DAVID MAMET

Fun and games + larcency

Playwright-director David Mamet is an acquired taste, but two of the films he wrote are absolutely delicious. HOUSE OF GAMES (1987) with Joe Mantegna and THE SPANISH PRISONER (1998) with Steve Martin are as fun to watch as they're tough to figure out. I won’t even attempt to describe the plots; suffice to say that both are filled with Mamet’s uniquely nuanced and rhythmed dialogue and involve intricate scams.
